    Seven Sisters, Seaford Head - 28th December 2008 15:09
The chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters taken from Seaford Head and looking across Cuckmere Haven. The coastguard cottages can been seen in the foreground. Taken on a family trip to Eastbourne, Beachy Head and Cuckmere Haven.

This is the classic view of the Seven Sisters, looking over the coastguard cottages at Cuckmere Haven from Seaford Head. The white chalk cliffs reflect the light from the sun sinking through the clear and crisp December afternoon sky. The light casts a warm glow over the scene.

Indeed they are. Most people mistake them for the White Cliffs of Dover (probably because they are a great stand in for films/TV), but there are two chalk ridges that run from West to East in the area between London and the South coast.
The North Downs end at Dover and form the famous White Cliffs.
The South Downs end at Eastbourne and form the Seven Sisters (as seen here).

It's a shame I couldn't have stuck around for sunset as I suspect the cliffs would have got a lot warmer as it sank closer to the horizon.

      Thanks for the invitation :)

I know this view very well, and have seen many takes on it, but this is a beautifully taken shot. The light hitting the chalk cliffs and the end wall of the cottage is perfect. Lovely photograph.

Thanks very much. I do plan to go back and walk from Seaford to Eastbourne (or vice versa maybe) to take in all the views along this lovely stretch of coast.

Thanks - it really was fantastic light. I'm looking forward to going back with my new camera at some point and plan to do more exploration now I know what the place is like.

Thanks - yes it is a wonderfully timeless view and very "English". I'm looking forward to getting back with my new camera at some point and see if I can do it even more justice.
