Generation Zero

This is the clutch of Snapping Turtle eggs that my wife and I documented the laying of earlier this week. Here you see the hole has been excavated (probably by a Racoon, Skunk, or Fox) and the empty egg shells are scattered just behind it.

    Yep. In this one area there had to be half a dozen recently predated turtle nests. I'm always amazed by how many nests don't make it.
