I went hiking today with my wife and a couple of friends. We were trying to summit Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We had to turn around oh-so-close to the summit when we reached an ice flow that we could not safely cross (with a dog). On the way back down the mountain we hiked past Lonesome Lake. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a cow and bull moose standing in a small cove in the lake eating plants! This is the bull moose. Notice his little antler nubs.
I feel like I should apologize for the image quality… there's almost no excuse for this in today's day and age. This photo was shot with my Nikon D80, and the kit 18-135mm f3.5-f5.6 zoom lens. It was late afternoon, and I had to zoom out to 135mm to get a decent shot. But since that made my maximum aperture 5.6, I had to boost the ISO to 640 to get a shutter speed fast enough to eliminate any shake from hand holding the camera. I can't wait to get a newer camera with better noise control.
