15-Partners for Resilience India exchange visit: South Sudan country team, August 2018

Photos taken during the August 2018 visit to Partners for Resilience project sites in Odisha and Gujarat states by the PfR South Sudan country team – two of the six in which PfR is being implemented, together with Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand. PfR India aims to increase the resilience of vulnerable communities to rising risks from a changing climate and environmental degradation, enabling sustainable and inclusive livelihoods for people. The programme engages with government, civil society and the private sector in promoting an integrated approach to risk management. Picture shows Gokharkuda fishing village, Odisha. With help from PfR partner NetCoast, residents got advisory services that helped them access government schemes to increase their resilience and the sustainability of their livelihoods. These included cold storage for fresh fish, drying platforms close to the village, solar-powered bathrooms (see photo) close to the spot where the women dry fish, a new road to the beach, and a reinforced embankment protecting their freshwater reservoir from the encroaching sea.
