Striding Edge........ A name familiar to many, a place that has many tales of tragedy and delight. This ridge has a unique quality, it has a fascination amongst the Lakeland lovers of the world, once feared now respected and repeatedly conquered,
No other place in Lakeland has such fame, for the daring, the Sunday walker, the newbie to Lakeland this ridge holds many delights, it can be as exhilarating as one wants to make it but to remember this ridge is not to be underestimated and careful work and good judgement is paramount.
Noted as being the best route of ascent to the mighty heart of Lakeland...... Helvellyn...... the exit ramp of Striding Edge gives the perfect finale, a sudden and dramatic panorama when the summit is under those tired wanderers legs, almost always with a stiff breeze hitting your face.
Looking back here, perching on the final scramble, the view..... A Classic, a heavy sky, Red Tarn surrounded by classic glacial ridges, the park falls away in the distance.
A mountain for many, a route for all to experience..... This is Striding Edge....... The Gateway to Helvellyn.
