LA BOCA, BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

La Boca (literally The Mouth) was the name of the old port of Buenos Aires. Today is a neighborhood of working people with seafaring vocation, irregular streets and high sidewalks that protect the homes of potential flooding. It is a district different from the rest of Buenos Aires, being an area where they settled in the early twentieth century immigrants from Italy, Spain, Greece, Yugoslavia and Turkey. They were born the famous "conventillos" (tenements), group homes that housed temporarily at newcomers to Buenos Aires. It highlights their homes typical of zinc and wood, then painted with leftover paint for ships, hence the variety of colors.

The people of La Boca were always fun, loud and melancholy. In the neighborhood are born singers, musicians, poets and artists, many of whom have held important places in popular preference.

For its colorful landscapes and for being one of the most popular tango's scenery, the music of Buenos Aires par excellence, La Boca has his own label, picturesque, and a singular melancholy.
