MELO R6: Dol Guldur (Main)

This is my entry for Round 6 (the finals) of the 2017 Middle Earth Lego Olympics on MOCPages. The category was "switched teams", some examples are an evil version of Rivendell, a white Barad-dur with a beautiful woman's eye instead of Sauron's Eye, or the Nine White Riders who are sent out to bring joy and peace to the peoples of Middle Earth.

I chose to build a friendly version of the evil fortress of Dol Guldur built and controlled by Gondor. In the real Middle-Earth universe, Dol Guldur was built by Sauron long ago and he resided there until he was banished to Mordor by the White Council. It is in ruins and surrounded by the dark forest of Mirkwood. In my version, the fortress was built by Gondor as a military outpost in the nice forest of Mirkwood. In this scene, the king of Gondor is at the fortress and an evil version of Gandalf the Grey approaches the castle. I tried to incorporate architectural features of Dol Guldur, as well as the bridge leading to the castle. I replaced the ravine below (that is shown filled with thorns and brambles in The Hobbit movies) with leaves and patches of flowers. The blue in the rocks was a bit of an experiment, but gave it a more interesting fantasy look, and turned out fairly well in my opinion. Be sure to check out the pictures of the interior! Good luck to my opponent, and thanks to the judges for hosting an awesome contest!
