RSAF Gate Guardian Panavia Tornado IDS 765 - Dhahran, Saudi Arabia

Possibly the most expensive gate guardian anywhere is this Royal Saudi Air Force Panavia Tornado IDS 765 displayed outside the main entrance to King Abdul Aziz Air Force Base, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Three days after the start of Operation Desert Storm of the Gulf War, the aircraft ran out of fuel reportably as a result of refusing to refuel from a USAF female tanker crew. The crew then elected to fly to an alternate base at lower altitude thus burning more fuel, ultimately running out a few kilometres short. The aircraft was collected from the desert where it crash landed and put onto a flatbed for about two years until it was decided to make it into a gate guardian.
