☞ Impressive, if not inspirational.
▶ While the artwork is not literally in Freedom Park, it is directly adjacent to the park, located on the north side of Highland Avenue NE immediately east of its intersection with Glen Iris Drive NE.

▶ “Commissioned by Fulton County Arts Council, this minimalist structure by renowned artist Sol LeWitt integrates art and architecture. The work is comprised of 54 concrete pillars ranging in height from 10 to 20 feet and arranged in a triangular layout, referencing the urban environment and Atlanta’s skyline. In 2000, Art in America magazine named '54 Columns' one of the top 24 public arts projects of the year.”
▶ “Sol LeWitt (September 9, 1928 – April 8, 2007) was an American artist linked to various movements including conceptual art and minimalism. His media were predominantly painting, drawing, and structures (a term he preferred in opposition to sculpture).
LeWitt was the subject of hundreds of solo exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world beginning in 1965. His prolific two and three-dimensional work ranges from Wall Drawings, over 1200 of which have been executed, to photographs, hundreds of works on paper, structures in the form of towers, pyramids, geometric forms, and progressions. These works range in size from maquettes to monumental outdoor pieces.
LeWitt moved to New York City in the 1950s and studied at the School of Visual Arts and, for a year, he was a graphic designer in the office of architect I.M. Pei. The Museum of Modern Art, New York gave Sol LeWitt his first retrospective in 1978-79. At the time of his death, LeWitt had just organized a retrospective of his work at the Allen Memorial Art Museum in Oberlin, Ohio.”
