High-level delegation led by CITES Secretary-General Ivonne Higuero visited Mexico in May 2019 to address the totoaba and vaquita crisis. Both species are in CITES Appendix I. The illegal harvesting and trafficking in the totoaba fish is also wiping out vaquita due to bycatch in gillnets.
