fabulously famous Fourth of Julys

I do so love a quiet and peaceful 4th of July and that is how I normally enjoy the Independence Day holiday... but over the years I have celebrated a few times in glorious fashion...

July 4, 1975 - "Rolling Stones, J. Geils Band, and the Charlie Daniels Band played the Liberty Bowl, then known as Memphis Memorial Stadium. It was a wild time that remains infamous in Memphis concert lore, a brutally hot show day that found many concertgoers stripped to the buff, a time when marijuana consumption was so conspicuous that hemp plants could be seen growing out of the stadium turf a few weeks after the concert. Today, many of those fans are respectable, fully dressed adults"...

and I have lived to tell that I am now one of those adults... ;)

July 4, 1985 - drove at dawn over to Columbus Belmont Park to cookout breakfast... the most perfectly peaceful private 4th of July picnic ever...

July 4, 1998 - after a bus tour of Washington DC the day before, daughter dear and I spent Independence Day people watching on the Mall with fireworks over the Washington Monument to conclude the day... absolutely amazing...

July 4, 2007 - but if you want to talk about the banner flag waving year, not a single 4th of July can top this day spent at the birth of my 10lb red-headed firecracker grandboy...!!
