Bufflehead - a duck on the run

Bufflehead ducks are my favorite. They are small, cute, and seem to be smiling. They are not too aggressive with eachother (unlike many other ducks I've watched in the pond).

When Buffleheads take to the air, they run across the top of the water and their wings never touch the surface of the pond. Amazing feat, this.

The Sigmonster is a, well, huge optic. I wondered if the AF would be able to keep up with fast moving birds, and I wondered if the 6kg tripod mounted lens could be used for birds in flight. I'm very surprised to learn that, yes, the AF is fabulous! and that BIF are possible with the Sigmonster.

You should see the original files of these birds. The resolution and micro-contrast is shocklingly good. I wonder if my 100-400L will begin to feel left out of all the fun!! LOL!!!
