Along the winding lanes of Kent (single track, high green hedgerows), up a big hill towards a forest of bluebells sits Old Soar Manor. A National Trust property - an empty, centuries old manor with the remnants of its great hall upstairs, up a steep and winding stone staircase. Obviously maintained for the benefit of public viewing, but empty. Every time I've been there, my various Aussie companions and I have been the only ones there. A big old oak door must be shut and locked at night.
