Water in Ethiopia: power for women
Funding from the EU and Christian Aid allowed Water Action to do much more than simply bring clean water to more than 50,000 people. In Ethiopia, women are rarely allowed to help make important decisions within their families and communities. Now Water Action is working to improve attitudes towards women by ensuring they have leadership roles on the committees that take responsibility for each community’s water point. Rahemete is the treasurer for her community’s committee and believes that women are better respected since this work began – a change that should prove significant for her granddaughter Leila, 9.
