See below for what got me to this shot above (kind of frustrating and a little disappointing).... Anyway, I love this shot, for more than one reason. First, it's such a thrill not only to see a raptor flying so close (let alone overhead), but also to capture one on camera. This experience will never get old for me. Secondly, look at the way the sunlight is striking its head and neck, and along the front edge of its wings. I love the contrast of the reddish-brown feathers and that gorgeous blue sky that only minutes before had been covered in dull, dark, grey clouds. I just felt very blessed in the moment of this hawk's overhead flight. It's one of those moments I live for and that makes me feel so glad and so fortunate to be alive.
I hope you enjoyed my red-tailed hawk series this week. I wish I could put into words how good I feel when I have these encounters. I hope my photos can convey at least a fraction of that feeling.
