Below is an excerpt from my travel blog. Cheers.

Have you ever wondered where Thousand Island Dressing comes from? Well, it comes from the Thousand Islands area located in the Saint Lawrence River between Canada and the United States. A fishing guides's wife, Sophia LaLonde, made the condiment as part of her husband's shore dinner. A well known actress at the time, May Irwin, requested the recipe after tasting it. She in turn gave it to George Boldt, the proprietor for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. He then instructed the hotel's maitre d'hotel to put the dressing on the menu - and voila, the world was introduced to a new savory salad dressing.

The photo above is taken from Ynys Craig Island on the Canadian side of the Thousand Island Area.
