'Golden Sunrise', United States, New Hampshire, Lake Winnipesaukee, Pitchwood Island, Sunrise
Below is an excerpt from my travel blog. Cheers.
I woke up on Pitchwood Island the day after I set out to shoot New Hampshire's autumn colors. My friends have a house and a small guesthouse for visitors on a beautiful, rustic little island in the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. I had full intentions of waking up before the sunrise to capture the beautiful colors off of their south facing dock, but I was bit worn down from the day before. So with a late start, I set out from their guesthouse on the path towards their house. I came across one of the smaller houses on the island (boarded up for the season) and managed to capture a flood of golden light creating the most comforting glow on the yellow, autumn leaves on the island. I've shot in direct sunlight at this hour before and the key is to position yourself so that the sun is half (or even three quarters) hidden behind an object. In doing so, you bring down the intensity of the direct sun and bring down the tonal range. It also prevents any unwanted flare.
