'Peeking Through', Argentina, El Chalten, Mt. Fitzroy
Below is an excerpt from my travel blog. Cheers.
This view is taken from a small mountain outside of El Chalten, Argentina. It is the youngest town in Argentina and proof of that is that in in El Chalten there is no cemetary. This town sprang up literally overnight, and was the object of a border dispute between Argentina and Chile in the 1980s. Apparently Chile woke up one morning and found a new town erected by their neighbors in Argentina, who now had the argument of having inhabitants within the area. Chile was not impressed. A war nearly broke out until, I'm told, the Pope had to intervene and calm everyone down. Thank you Pope John Paul II.
This town has exploded in the last few years. The view of Mount Fitzroy and the unique sensation of living in a privileged corner of the globe is the main attraction of this little outpost in Patagonia called El Chalten.
