This is the third of several galleries depicting the 34th Anniversary of Silver State 508, on September 14-16 (Friday-Sunday), 2018.

Founded by John Marino in 1983, recognized as "The Toughest 48 hours in Sport" and also known as simply "The 508," it is the world's premier 48-hour ultra cycling race. This 508-mile bicycle race is revered the world over for its epic mountain climbs, stark desert scenery, desolate roads, and its reputation as one of the toughest but most gratifying endurance challenges available, bar none.

Solo, two-person relay, and four-person relay divisions are offered for men, women, and mixed, with sub-categories for classic bicycles, fixed gear bicycles, tandems, and recumbent bicycles, plus ten-year age groups for all divisions.

This 508-mile ultra cycling race starts in Reno, Nevada and crosses the northern Nevada outback primarily on Hwy 50, "the loneliest highway in America," returning to Reno with a 48-hour time limit for solo racers and 46 hours for relay team. Timing checkpoints are located in Silver Springs, Fallon, Austin, and Eureka. The event also passes through historic and iconic Virginia City.
