Fuji XPro 1 high ISO test
Some of you know that I love(ed) Canon and I shot with the 5d2 and a slew of top of the line lenses over the last couple years but I planned to make the switch to the darkside (Nikon) for either the D800 or D600. After a discussion with a buddy of mine who switched from the 5d2 to the Fuji Xpro 1 I had to investigate it further.
I couldn't believe that this awesome camera slipped under my gear savvy radar unnoticed. I didn't even give it a second glance because I was so overwhelmed by what to get for my Nikon setup. After reading and watching a few reviews and clawing my way through what was either new camera fandom or hate I realized it was the perfect camera for me. I sell prints but usually nothing bigger than 16x24 or 10x30 and found I was also downsizing my final jpegs from the 5D2 to 3200 on the long side (don't ask why, I just started and never stopped). The Fuji shots ooc were almost 5000 on the long side so plenty big enough for my printing and web purposes.
The pro's started piling on and soon I was dead set on getting it. Lighter, smaller, no AA filter, hybrid viewfinder with a incredibly nice 3" 1.23 million pixel LCD, primes (which I've been wanting to return to), and a new sensor that blew my mind. Throw in the fact that it's small enough to now accompany me to a Blazers game or some shows at the Roseland to get shots I would've been unable to get due to the size of the 5d2 and lenses.
Anyways, I still plan on getting either a D800 or D600 next year but this will definitely keep me occupied for a very long time. Just look at the above shot! I've shot FF, full manual and only RAW for 3 years and this was taken at ISO6400 in aperture priority and jpeg. Nothing else was done besides the resize for easier viewing on facebook. I had almost 60k actuations on my 5dii and shot at 3200 a lot and 6400 a hand full of times and this completely blows it out of the water. I have just the 35 1.4 which is a 53mm f/1.4 on FF and it's a stunning little lens. Optics wise it's up there with the 50L and way beyond the Canon/Sigma/Nikon 50's and was only $699! Enough chatter, I'm going to be shooting more for myself in the next few months and this is just the tool to do it with.
