"Born again" birkenstocks

    Newer Older

So, my trusty and well-worn pair of Birkenstocks fell apart on me while I was walking in them. Luckliy the shoe-shiners have shoe repair knowledge and supplies. This guy stitched the two parts back together. THEY LIVE ON! For $4.

Also, it is a warming feeling to know that the shoes I was walking in were sewn together by hand. Every time I looked down I saw the stitches and it was as though I was carrying a part of another person with me.

I would go so far as to claim that (while eloquently put) the anecdote isn't necessary to know what is going on in the photo. This photo is actually brilliantly competent on so many levels I'll have to elaborate later in a much-deserved phone call to you!

post script: btw, those shoes, upon my return, were stored in a small compartment and they had been damp with rainwater... and they got mold on them. So, they are no more.
