Process of Subtraction
Nine photographers present work that challenges through the utilization of photography as a basis for extraction. Elements have been removed with a wide variety of techniques - from actually covering physical elements within a scene, to distressing prints, reproduction of image through line, and even a video installation of photos burning away.

The Chicago Art Department was pleased to have a great mix of rising artists pushing the medium to the edge and back again - Allison Grant, Nathan Miller, Jessica Pierotti, Ben Alper, Victor Salgado, Chuck Przybyl, Daniel Hojnacki, Nicole White, and Edyta Stepien. Consider this show a cross-section of what is going on now in image-making, taking the raw elements of photography be it film or digital and pushing past the standard photographic image without gimmicks or effects, just raw distillation until the pure concept emerges.
