As Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement draws to a close North and South Sudan are both entering a period of unchartered territory, with formal independence to be declared by the South in July. Yet the CPA was made up of a variety of protocols and many outstanding issues remain. Assistant Secretary Carson provided an overview of US policy goals in Sudan for the final months of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, transition to Southern independence, and beyond.
