PS: This was originally posted as a tribute when Steve Jobs of Apple died, in October... It's now a month later, and I didn't think I had a suitable cliché photo for this week...till I suddenly saw the group's weekly theme name, "There's a penguin on the television." Well... forgive me for dredging one out of the archives, but how could I resist? No need to comment, just enjoy all the cliché old-fashioned Apple stuff. HCS!
Wherein Tux-I emerges from an old TV set that was our first ever computer monitor. This is a photo of our first computer, and Apple II+ we bought in 1980, in use by our budding programmer. I learned to program on this baby, too, developing database software for our law office. The competition for computer time grew heavier and soon we had our second Apple II.
We stayed with Apple for a decade, part of the "Apple II forever" crowd, not interested in a Mac at all (sorry, Steve!). But finally compatibility issues sent us over to the PC and Windows world where we stayed for another decade. Twenty years after this first computer, we went back to Apple and bought a Mac. Computers in general are a continuing love affair for us. It seemed only fitting to dedicate today's Toy-in-the-frame Thursday offering to Steve Jobs. Without him and Woz and Steve's garage, who knows when - or if - any of us would have a small, affordable, home computer.
