I thought this macro photo of the purple star flowers (Star of Persia, Allium Christophii) looked almost like a flower explosion, or perhaps flower fireworks. Though, thanks to the wind, this was more luck than skill.
I was trying to get used to the 85 1.8 with the Kenko 36mm extension tube on the 5D (as an alternative to the 100mm macro as my wife has confiscated that for the moment), to see if it could be a good combo for flower photography for our Madeira trip later this summer.
You can get quite nice macro shots, but you can’t focus from very far away, so perhaps the 20mm extension tube would be a better fit. You lose infinite focus capability with both combos, but that shouldn’t be a problem for these kind of photos.
