Model of HM Schooner Nancy
Originally a civil transport, later requisitioned for the war effort in 1812 and commanded by Lieutenant Miller Worsley, RN. Nancy served as a transport and supply vessel until the American triumph at the Battle of Lake Erie made life hazardous for unescorted British vessels on the Great Lakes.
Nancy was subsequently discovered at her secret resupply station in the Nottawasaga River, off Georgian Bay. An American squadron pounded her with their guns until her commander decided to burn the schooner to prevent capture. Her sunken hull eventually created an island in the Nottawasaga, known as Nancy Island.
Lt. Worsley later avenged her destruction by capturing two of the ships from the squadron that bombarded Nancy. Read the whole story here.
