Model of Fort Rouille (Fort Toronto)
French trading post, built from 1750-51 and then abandoned and burned in 1759 to prevent its capture by the British. The site is well west of Fort York, near the bandshell on the present-day Exhibition grounds. A small obelisk, cannons and mortars mark the spot today. It is also visible in a satellite view, since the city has preserved the outline of the fort with low concrete walls.
