City of Man, City of God Speakers Series
The Center for Sacramento History (formerly the Sacramento Archives & Museum Collection Center) hosts a semi-annual Speakers Series to highlight recent scholarship on the Sacramento region, showcase the collections at the Center through photographic exhibitions, and to reach out to audiences not normally served by the Center. The event is free and open to the public.

On Friday, June 12, 2009, the Center for Sacramento History (formerly the Sacramento Archives & Museum Collection Center) unveiled a new photographic exhibit, City of Man, City of God: The Catholic Church and the Shaping of Sacramento.

The exhibit depicted the role that people of faith played in shaping Sacramento’s urban agenda, from the 1850s to today. The evening included an address by Dr. Steven M. Avella on his recently released book, Sacramento and the Catholic Church: Shaping a Capital City. Nearly two hundred people attended the reception and lecture.
