Nature Walk 2012.09.26
UMass Boston’s Center for Governance and Sustainability, with the support of the McCormack School of Policy and Global Studies, has launched a new ‘Nature Walks’ initiative. The program invites students, faculty, staff, and other members of the academic community to learn about the ecosystems and habitats existing within the University’s campus. The walks intend to serve as a learning experience for the promotion of sustainability.
On September 26th, 2012, the first event brought participants along a path from the main campus, through the Harborwalk up to the Vietnam War Memorial on Morrissey Blvd. During the walk, Prof. AnaMarija Frankic, Coordinator of the Center’s Sustainability Initiative, explained the different biological and ecological characteristics of these ecosystems, and how UMass Boston has worked towards the conservation of the existing species and towards the promotion of sustainability policies at the campus and community levels.
