Dwarf Sundew Pant - Drosera brevifolia

    Newer Older

Another carnivorous plant found in east Texas. These rarely get larger than a quarter. The tiny hairs have a "dew drop" at their tips that apparently smells sweet to ants, flies and other small insects. Unfortunately, once they touch them, they become stuck and the plant curls more hairs and eventually the leaf around the unfortunate bug. He then gets digested to become food for the plant. I found these while hiking near the Big Thicket in south east Texas. Interesting little plant.
