I could probably have a "what is it?" contest with this one, captured at South Coast Botanic Garden last weekend, but I will avoid suspense and tell you you're looking deep into the heart of a yellow dahlia blossom. I tend to find small details, like this tiny cluster of petals, and fixate on them. I couldn't quite decide whether the petals reminded me more of enthusiastic singers or baby birds waiting for parents to feed them. Either way, I love the endless possibilities of isolated flower elements. (Zuiko 50mm macro, f/3.5, 1/250 sec., ISO 100, overcast skies, handheld)

Worth an extra minute to see this larger on black
