October - Autumn Leaves

The cold Michigan nights of October cause the forest to come alive with the most vibrant colors of the year. The air is delicious with the smell of Autumn leaves, and you can hear the rustle of squirrels busily gathering fallen acorns in preparation for the looming Winter. On this day, after the Sunday storms ended, it was a perfect day for a hike.

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

"Nothing Gold Can Stay"

Robert Frost, 1923
