October - Autumn Leaves

    Newer Older

The cold Michigan nights of October cause the forest to come alive with the most vibrant colors of the year. The air is delicious with the smell of Autumn leaves, and you can hear the rustle of squirrels busily gathering fallen acorns in preparation for the looming Winter. On this day, after the Sunday storms ended, it was a perfect day for a hike.

    Nature's first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold
    Her early leaf's a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

    "Nothing Gold Can Stay"
    Robert Frost, 1923

I like your "shoe-cam" or bug's-eye-view shots, and this one's really cool, like a bunch of bugs climbed on each other's shoulders to survey the scene.

autumns rain to earth now falls
to cover ground as winter calls
but this rain is dry and all colours bright
when wind does blow a wondrous sight
      yellows reds and golden hue's
as the trees in autumn their leaves now loose
they blanket earth with rustling drifts
as children play their spirit lifts
but as winter calls and colder days
their thoughts will turn to winter plays
but autumn leaves are home to some
as animals and birds for food will come
the insects there will feed them all
when winters snow now soon will fall
the squirrel hides his food in there
but find i later he doesn't care
for he'll eat all he finds even when hid by another
as those unearth the food that he did cover

Every autumn leaf has its own story to tell.

Amazing how the patterns and colors of each of the autumn leaves is unique and beautiful.

The autumn season is my favorite time of year.

I like your fall pictures. I will look forward to seeing more of them soon.
