today we got up early (5am) to visit rungis, the largest wholesale food market in the world. they aren't kidding around. the place was probably larger than your average college campus. it is a series of warehouses, each dedicated to a different type of food. you're not really allowed to go there unless you are a certified buyer or seller, but we managed to sneak in. we got there around 6, which is when things are beginning to shut down (the market is open from 12am to 9am). by the time we arrived, the fish hall was closing, but we got a peek at the game hall and a few vegetable halls. it was intense and sort of tarnished the gleam of french food for me. but, it was still pretty rad.
