New perl.org homepage, with Flash banner blocked by ClickToFlash

Is there any particular reason why the "Flexible & Powerful" and "That's Why We Love Perl" text in the main banner have to be done in Flash?

If you have ClickToFlash installed on your Mac -- and if you don't, you're not using the web properly -- then these two fields show up as blank grey boxes. Only after clicking on them does the Flash get loaded and the text get displayed.

This might make sense if those fields actually "did" something -- animations, play a game, whatever -- but if it's just text, as seems to be the case here, then this seems pretty pointless.

It's using sIFR to replace boring Impact with exciting Trade Gothic.

Uninstall flash completely and it will degrade nicely to HTML+CSS

There's also an "enable sIFR" option in recent versions of ClicktoFlash (see issue#49).

    Ah, I see.

In that case, I've updated my copy of CTF.

    Thanks for the clarification.
