iPhoto '09 face detection: "Not a face", Jaguar, Franklin Park Zoo, Boston MA

iPhoto '09 is so slow that it's too cumbersome to untag the obvious non-faces that it keeps detecting.

To get them to clump together, I've taken to flagging them all as "not a face", so that they'll at least be in one place together.

iPhoto: the comedic gift that, maniacally, pathologically refuses to quit giving.

UPDATE 30 April 2009: I've found a simple trick to speed up iPhoto enormously:

* Open up Preferences

* Un-check "Sources: [ ] Show item counts"

That's it.

This doesn't appear to work for everyone -- note that in the link above, Notch Johnson reports that iPhoto is still slow on his high-end Mac Pro.

But for me, on my used-to-be-high-end G5, the difference is night & day: iPhoto was nearly unusable before. Now, it's responsive enough that I can mostly ignore it and get back to work, like a normal application should be.
