George Simons Frontier Sketches
The cook for the Union Pacific Railroad survey crew, George Simons traveled extensively, but spent of 50 years in and around Council Bluffs, Iowa. Simons prospected gold in Colorado, traveled the Oregon Trail into California, hunted buffalo with the Native Americans, and produced stage sets for Brigham Young in Utah. He retired in 1900 to Long Beach, California where he died in 1917.
