Mass Effect Citadel

    Prev Next

The Citadel, from Mass Effect. Some artistic license taken with the design, but I think it's fairly faithful.

Had a catastrophic accident while setting up to take a WIP photograph--this thing isn't exactly very stable. Frustration led to a marathon session of building out the wards and fixing the ring, and before I knew it I was pretty much done. Thanks for giving me a nudge, Peter.

Shot in low light with two blacklights to make the trans-neon-orange elements fluoresce. I'm not completely happy with the nebula I threw together, but what the hey--I think it looks cool.

I will most likely take more photos, but I wanted to get something posted while the thing is still intact. :>

    Primary reference picture.

      Agreed, the presentation is fantastic.

Oh yeah, and the MOC is pretty amazing as well.

It was all worth it, this is great, but damn you've got a lot of trans-orange!

Oh my. Well then, I guess a welcome to any incoming Kotaku visitors is in order. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Ironically this is not a particularly complicated build--just a little parts-intensive, most of which was from pick-a-brick. I should post some breakdown shots of the structure of the wards.

Wow, looks like the Kotaku article got picked up and tweeted by Xbox Support and one of the overseas EA offices. I really ought to quit procrastinating and get back to work on that Halo Ringworld project...

I just KNEW you were going to wimp out on the HALO project!

( you just made the Master Chief cry .....................)

      Haha, not happening. ;)

It may take me a while, but I'm determined that I /will/ finish it. Ideally I'd like to have it done by Brickcon this year, but we'll see.

So what's next, the SSV Normandy, the Destiny Ascension or Sovereign?

    12. Catsy [CC] 58 months ago | reply

^ Well, I need to find the v2 of the micro Normandy that I built and photograph it. :) As far as epic projects go, though, it looks increasingly like the Ringworld will be finished this year--I'm a little over 70% done with the landmasses on the inner ring, and once that's done the model itself is complete--all that remains is building a display stand.

Unfortunately "all that" is quite a bit of work still--the ring is over 5 feet in diameter, flexible, and very heavy. I haven't decided if I'm going to brick-build a stand, use PVC piping, or go all-out with clear acrylic. I may eventually go the acrylic route, but in the meantime it's more likely that I'll brick-build something structurally similar to the spine of the Death Star II set.
