Creevykeel Court Tomb (10)

Creevykeel Court Tomb is located on the main Donegal/Sligo road between Bundoran and Mullaghmore. It is well signposted from the main road. There is a carpark.

The information stone at the entrance reads:

"This is one of the finest Court Cairns in Ireland. Built in the 3rd millennium BC, it consists of a wedge-shaped mound, with a burial chamber opening off the open central court. Near the narrow end of the mound are two further graves (Passage Graves?). In the Early Christian period iron was smelted in the central court."

The tomb originally measured over 200m x 61m. The stones are local limestone and the large lintel stone measures 2m x 1.5m x .5m.

When it was first excavated in the 1930s bits of neolighic bowls, axeheads, ancient knives and cremated bones were found.
