DEBBIE HARRY (ANDY WARHOL) 1980
Acquired this at the Andy Warhol Exhibition in Edinburgh 2007. This is the famous Debbie Harry poster.
From images of Campbell’s soup cans to Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol’s hugely influential work reflected a consumer and celebrity-obsessed culture and remains some of the most recognisable art of the 20th century.
A major exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the artist’s death was shown at the National Gallery Complex in Edinburgh in October 2007 and, took over both floors of the venue’s temporary display space, and was the most comprehensive show ever dedicated to him in Scotland.
It was aimed to show how the themes of life and death ran through his work and presented a broad range of Warhol’s work from the early 1950s to 1986, in a wide range of media – painting, sculpture, drawing collage, film, photography and installation.
From my personal collection.
