Yakushima Island
Yakushima is an island of 500 km² in the southern part of Japan south of Kyushu in the Kagoshima prefecture. It is said to "rain 35 days a month" with a average annual rainfall of 4,000 to 10,000mm. One of the wettest places on earth. It is also believed that this forest is the inspiration behind Ghibli studios Princess Mononoke.
