Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall
Founded in 1824, its current building in Pall Mall was designed by the 24-year-old Decimus Burton. The impressive frieze is a copy of one of the Elgin Marbles (now housed in the British Museum), created by John Henning, a leading sculptor of the time. The building, a private members’ club (which now also admits women) was completed in 1830. The statue of Pallas Athene is by Edward Hodges Baily.
