National Data Privacy Day Event
Carnegie Mellon celebrated National Data Privacy Day on Jan. 28 with several events at the Cohon University Center. Representatives from the Privacy Engineering master’s degree program held a privacy clinic to give tips on online privacy and security. This was followed by a keynote address introduced by President Subra Suresh from FTC Commissioner Julie Brill, who spoke on the need for privacy to be engineered into the ubiquitously networked “Internet of Things.” This was followed by a panel discussion on privacy education, research and policy with Commissioner Brill moderated by CMU vice president for research Farnam Jahanian, and CMU faculty privacy experts Lorrie Faith Cranor, director of CMU’s Cylab, Alessandro Acquisti, and Norman Sadeh.
