Mapping the Future of the Humanities and Social Sciences
“Mapping the Future of the Humanities and Social Sciences” took place at CMU on Monday, April 21, as a continuation of the Inaugural symposia series. This symposium focused on The American Academy of Arts & Sciences’ 2013 Heart of the Matter Report which has drawn attention to the importance of the humanities and social sciences in American public life. Two members of the commission who wrote the report, Norman Augustine and Hunter Rawlings, were joined by four distinguished CMU faculty members to discuss the distinctive ways in which the humanities and social sciences have evolved at Carnegie Mellon, and how CMU’s social scientists and humanities scholars have engaged in rich and productive collaboration to raise questions and solve problems in the sciences, public policy, the arts, and engineering.
