State and Erie Boulevard.jpg

I cannot believe that I FORGOT that giant Mohawk National Bank "mural" on the corner of Erie Boulevard, with its arrow pointing behind you (because the bank would have been behind you if you drove up to the corner. Schenectady Trust was right next to Schenectady Savings and Loan. The Photo Lab has been there forever, and is still there, in a building that once housed Kresge's. Next to it was Flowers by Paul, which held out a very long time, and the Vottis shop, a tobacco shop that lasted until relatively recently and is now some sort of hobby store.

On the right, Star Furniture, successor to Fern's, Union Fern, and Wagar's, predecessor to Olender's. The Free Parking sign has remained all these years.

This is from a collection of photographs at Schenectady Library by John P. Papp. I'm posting this without permission, for use only in my local history and genealogy research.
