Unique Alkaline Pegmatites

July 3, 2011: The Vøra pegmatites, Vesterøya, Sandefjord, are two unique alkaline pegmatites that have been protected in Norway since 1984. They are exposed along the road near the Vøra Campground. The pegmatites are very coarse-grained (greater than 30 cm) and predominantly contain a grey-brown microperthite (feldspar) and a black amphibole (magnesiokatophorite). Their peralkaline secondary mineral assemblage makes them unique.
