Rainy Avenue of the Americas

Probably one of my two or three best shots ever. For me it has something more because it reminds me a great moment...
You walk in one of the most impressive areas of NYC (for the first time), in a very special mood with the rain, you have your camera in the hand, you cross the avenue, stand in the middle of it... You see this tall man crossing, you know you'll have only one chance, you push the button, and you just see you took it at the perfect moment, then you run to the other sidewalk, with the feeling that this amazing moment will stay. You caught it!
This is the most exciting feeling you can have taking photos...

I'm not sure you could compose this photograph any better even if you planned it. I like your description of the moment as well. Superb.

Great shot, great commentary! It's so perfectly balanced, and the lines add an element of graduation to it. Lovely symmetry with the reflections of the headlights. All pinned together by the tall gu with the umbrella. 2500 people can't be all wrong!

......Then you don't understand photography. You can't see "it"...~!

Liam, you're perception and opinion is equally valid as everyone who 'like's' this, or any other image.
What would be useful is an explanation as to why you don't like it - just as it would be from people to explain why they do.
Unfortunately one of Flickr's limitations, or rather those that contribute comments, is that the 'comments' are usually quick and simple - 'I like this!', 'this is great', etc. You will notice very little critique - an explanation of why people do or don't like. That information would be really valuable to all of us to share.

My point is. Your missing the lines, the tones, the content. The weather that adds to the ambiance of the situation and the chance meeting of this situation to happen all at once. I think I speak from a bit of experience here since I have been a professional photographer some 36 plus years, have taught digital photography and have over 32,000 images here on flickr as well as being published. So...you might open your eyes, and if you don't see what we see, maybe study it a bit more. I'm not perfect and we always learn but you have your opinion which you are free to express.

Awesome, there never seems like a place to hide from the rain in NYC so I rarely took out my camera...Shots like this make me wish I had more often
