Eisenstadt City Museum in Sandór Wolf's home.

Sandor Wolf's home and Haydn's organ.. I am leaning on it and dreaming... .

The Museum in this home is well-worth visiting. Although it is not *the* Eisenstadt Jewish Museum, there are many items of relevance to the erstwhile historic Jewish community - once one of the most important in Europe.

It is not generally known that Sandor Wolf was the grandfather of the world-renown potter Lucie Rie –

Wolf, Sándor, b. Eisenstadt (Burgenland), Nov. 21, 1871, d. Haifa (Israel), Jan. 2, 1946, wine wholesaler, art collector and researcher. ... search his name on the site: AEIOU Austria [currently offline!] .

There is a WOLF GOMPERZ RIE family archive here with many pictures:

This is the family tree: www.fpe.ch/stammbaum/bilder/Stammtafel_Wolf.gif

Here is the obituary of Sandor's mother: anno.onb.ac.at/cgi-content/anno?apm=0&aid=nfp&dat...

and of his father in 1906:

Sandor Wolf was also a renowned scholar/archaeologist; he collaborated with Bernhard Wachstein: www.jewishgen.org/rabbinic/journal/eisenstadt.htm

in a momentous tome on the transcriptions of the Eisenstadt cemetery: “Die Grabinschriften des alten Judenfriedhofes in Eisenstadt mit einer Studie: Die Entwicklung des jüdischen Grabsteines und die Denkmäler des Eisenstädter Friedhofes von S. Wolf (Eisenstädter Forschungen 1).
