Painted Dragon

The second species we were looking for. Painted Dragons, Ctenophorus pictus have a moderately large distribution through inland NSW and SA. We found them mostly in habitats not occupied by the Mallee Military Dragon.

There was considerable variation in the plumage of the males of this species. This is a particularly yellow/brown individual. Some were brick red and yet others were very blue.
