voting day in a small town

Voting takes place in the main meeting room of Town Hall. Voters go inside and give their names to registrars. These people find the names on the list of registered voters. One registrar handles names beginning with A-K, and the other handles names from L-Z. Once your name is found, you're given a paper ballot to fill in. Before your slide the ballot into the counting machine, you give your name to another pair of registrars who mark your name to show that you in fact voted. In a small town like this one, many people smile as they state their names, because they know that the registrar knows them by sight.
